Devices#

Self Hosted Cloud Hosted

Connect brewing devices to follow a batch or keg. In the Cloud Hosted beta, iSpindel, Gravitymon, and Tilt through TiltBridge send gravity readings with the temperature measured at the same time. Self Hosted also supports pressure and pour devices.

Add a device#

Open Devices and add the sensor you want to use. BrewGraph gives you the connection details needed for that device’s setup. Once it starts reporting, its readings appear on the device and the assigned batch or tap.

On a Self Hosted installation, you can also scan your local network for compatible devices. Review and confirm any device found before using it.

Self Hosted Cloud Hosted: coming soon

PressureMon and KegMon work on Self Hosted installations. They are coming soon to Cloud Hosted and are not available in the beta.

The GravityMon Gateway can forward readings for several devices. On Cloud Hosted, Wi-Fi devices include their own token. Add each one as a Gravitymon device in BrewGraph; the Gateway forwards its readings. Do not add the Gateway as a separate device. BLE devices do not send a token, so they are not supported through the Gateway on Cloud Hosted yet. BLE support is coming soon. See GravityMon under Request examples in Device Ingest API.

Use readings where they matter#

In the Cloud Hosted beta, assign a gravity device to the batch currently fermenting to see its gravity and accompanying temperature on the batch chart. Self Hosted also supports pressure devices, pour devices, and completion predictions. Those hosted features are coming soon.

If a sensor is moved between batches or taps, update its assignment in Devices so new readings continue to appear in the right place.

Calibrate a gravity device#

An iSpindel or GravityMon reports how far it is tilted, and a formula turns that angle into gravity. The gravity formula editor on the device page helps you build that formula from your own reference measurements and keep it with the device.

  1. Open the gravity device and find the Gravity formula card.

  2. Add up to 20 calibration points. Each point is the tilt angle in degrees (between 15 and 90) and the gravity you measured for it. Use the Gravity unit switch to enter and view gravity as specific gravity (SG) or degrees Plato; BrewGraph stores it as SG either way.

  3. BrewGraph fits formulas of degree 1 to 4 to your points and shows each one with its largest deviation. Pick the one you want with Use, or type your own formula. The Formula, Table and Graph views show the formula, your points against it, and the fitted curve.

  4. Check the result with Test angle, then Copy formula and paste it into the device’s own configuration.

The formula can use tilt (the angle in degrees), temp (the temperature in °C), numbers, + - * /, ^ with a whole-number power, and parentheses, up to 200 characters. Formula returns sets whether the result is SG or Plato. A GravityMon always returns SG; an iSpindel formula from the iSpindel calibration tool returns Plato.

You can Export profile to keep a calibration as a file and Import profile to load one. Saving stores the formula and points in BrewGraph only. It does not change the device, so copy the formula into the device’s setup when you are happy with it.

Keep an eye on device health#

BrewGraph shows the battery voltage, percentage, or both when reported by the device. A value that is not reported is left blank; if neither is reported, no battery value is shown. The device page and gravity and pressure batch tabs show the available readings separately. Warnings for a device that has stopped reporting are available on Self Hosted and coming soon to Cloud Hosted.

If readings are refused, see Ingest error codes for what each status code means and what to do.

On Self Hosted installations, device logs can be available in the Device Log view to help troubleshoot a device that is not behaving as expected.
