Backup & Restore#

Self Hosted

All backup and restore operations are performed from the Backup view in the web UI. No command-line access or database tools are required.

Exporting a backup#

The Backup view offers a full export of all BrewGraph data as a single JSON file. The export includes:

  • All registered devices

  • All batches with their gravity readings, pressure readings, and fermentation steps

  • All taps

  • All storage vessels and pour events

Click Export in the Backup view to download the file. The filename is brewgraph_backup_<date>.json.

Note

The export file is a complete snapshot. Importing it will replace all existing data — devices, batches, taps, and vessels — not merge with it.

Importing a backup#

Warning

Restore is a replacement operation, not a merge. Before importing, export a fresh copy of the current instance and keep it outside the BrewGraph host. If possible, test an important restore on a spare instance first.

Click Import in the Backup view and select a backup file. BrewGraph validates the file before it begins. Restore continues where possible and reports any entities it could not restore; treat a partial restore as incomplete and review the reported failures before deleting the source backup.

BrewGraph supports two file formats:

BrewGraph backup (v2.0)

The native export format produced by the Export function above. All data is restored including taps, vessels, and pour events.

BrewLogger backup (v0.8 – v1.1)

BrewGraph can import backup files exported from BrewLogger 0.8 through 1.1. Devices and batches — including gravity and pressure readings — are converted and imported. Taps and vessels are not included in the BrewLogger format and will not be restored.

The import process replaces existing data before writing the backup contents. Device and batch IDs are remapped automatically so internal references remain consistent after the restore.

Exporting batch data#

Individual batch readings can be exported from the Batch List view using the export buttons on each batch row: as CSV, split by measurement type, or as a single JSON file with both gravity and pressure readings together.

Format

Contents

Gravity CSV

Timestamp, gravity (SG), temperature, angle, battery, RSSI, velocity, run time. One row per reading. Downloaded as brewgraph_gravity_batch_<id>.csv.

Pressure CSV

Timestamp, pressure (kPa), temperature, battery, RSSI, run time. One row per reading. Downloaded as brewgraph_pressure_batch_<id>.csv.

Batch JSON

Full batch record including all gravity and pressure readings in JSON format. Downloaded as brewgraph_batch_<id>.json.

These exports are suitable for importing into spreadsheet tools or external analysis software and do not affect data stored in BrewGraph.
